  • Teen Read Week

The whole month of October, HMS will be celebrating “TEENtober”.
TeenTober is a new, nationwide celebration hosted by school libraries each October to celebrate teen reading and promote year-round teen library services. The HMS library will be sponsoring two events to promote “TEENtober” and teen reading. The first event is a pumpkin decorating contest. Rules for this contest are listed below. Each pumpkin will be displayed in the library until Nov. 5th with a jar. Students can vote for their favorite pumpkin with money/change. The pumpkin that raises the most money for the library will win a $10.00 gift card. All funds raised will be used to purchase new library books for our students. The second event is a “”dress like your favorite book character” contest. This will be held on Oct. 29th at 8:50am. Students must be in dress code and must be able to tell me the title of the book and the character they are dressed as. A group of teachers will judge the contest and the winner will win a $10.00 gift card. Please encourage your students to participate in these events and encourage them to READ, READ READ! Let’s celebrate Teen Read Week and have some fun with books!

    Pumpkin Contest Rules:
✓ No real pumpkins (only plastic will be accepted)
✓ No candy or food items can be used to decorate the pumpkins
    (nothing that would attract bugs)
✓ Must be decorated like a character or theme from a book and must
have a form filled out with the title of the book, author and
character/theme of the pumpkin to be entered into the contest.
Pumpkin forms can be picked up in the library. Winner will receive a
    $10 gift card!
✓ Pumpkins can be turned in to Mrs. Tew during the week of Oct.
4th-8th. No pumpkins will be accepted after Friday, October 8th.
